RELIGION versus GRACE | The Faithful and Discreet Slave

“Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom his master appointed
over his domestics, to give them their food at the proper time?
Matthew 24:45-47, NWT

To Jehovah’s Witnesses, this is a prophecy identifying their 8 men governing body in Warwick, USA, as God’s one true channel since 1919. Although we will review this erroneous view, we do not want to miss the import of Jesus words to each of us, because all believers are called to be faithful servants (1 Pet 4:10-11; 1 Cor 4:1-2; Rom 12:6-8; John 21:15-17). See here.

Q. Is Matt 24:45-47 a prophecy?
No. Luke 12:41, a parallel account, calls it an “illustration” (NWT). This is the second in a series of 5 parables: the householder (24:42-44), faithful slave (24:45-47), wise virgins (25:1-13), talents (25:14-30), sheep and goats (25:31-46).

Q. When did Jesus appoint a slave to feed others?
As shown in the parable of the talents (Matt 25:14-15), Jesus in 33 CE assigned his slaves to do his work in 1919.

Q. Was WT providing good spiritual food around 1919 when ‘appointed’?
The only ‘spiritual food’ distributed at that time was the ‘Finished Mystery’ book (1917) and the public speaking campaign “Millions Now Living Will Never Die!” (1918). Would Jesus have chosen them on this basis? Please judge for yourself.

Q. Is the Evil slave (Matt 24:48-51) just a “hypothetical condition”, a warning?
If it is claimed that verses 45-47 are a fulfilled prophecy, can you claim the next verses are hypothetical? Note, he “says in his heart” that Christ is delaying, but would never publicly admit this! Luke 12:41-48 details four outcomes for these slaves.

Yes yes yes. After I 'awoke' I reread Matt 24&25 several times asking God to help me understand and that is exactly what I saw. Christ encouraging all those who will listen to serve one another and to be on the watch, not to be complacent.

Have you seen Eric Wilson's YouTube Series on Matthew 24 - I had to watch them many times over and took notes. Good stuff!

I love the reasoning. It is very logical and the discussion on the word parousia is very helpful. I am going to watch the next ones too. Thanks Lori Jane.
