A New Creation in a New Covenant

So that, assuming that anyone is in Christ, he is a creation new in quality.
The antiquated, out-of-date things [which do not belong to the new life in Christ Jesus] have passed away. Behold, all things have become new in quality

2 Cor 517, An Expanded Translation - Wuest

Do you long for a fresh start in life? Many seek a career change, adopt a new health regime or seek out a new relationship. These may well bring a sense of achievement and a measure of satisfaction but pale in comparison to the new things that God offers.

New Covenant. The Old Covenant was never meant to save Israel but point to the One who could. Trench asserts, “The covenant that Christ established is a diatheke koine [new], when compared with the Mosaic covenant, because the Mosaic covenant is exhausted with age and has lost its vigour, energy, and quickening power.” Why live under a tiring system of religious rules anymore when we have a New Covenant relationship? This is not the Law covenant under a different book cover, a rehash, an update, but a whole new deal in that we are now, through Christ’s blood, completely forgiven – not partially or temporarily as under the old.

New Creation. Those embraced by the New Covenant make up a “new creation” (2 Cor 5:17). This does not mean becoming more ‘religious’ or sticking to new resolutions to revise old habits and become more moral. This transformation from the inside out is all of God’s doing. Christ’s Spirit within us completely changes our thinking, feelings, our conversations – our whole outlook on life. We do not suddenly become sinless but we sin less. We dethrone self as the centre of our life and enthrone Christ. You really can possess a brand-new life now in Christ!
