Key Proof Texts Against the Trinity​

A proof text is a text that can only be legitimately interpreted one way.​

God Is One Person ​

• Deut. 6:4: Listen Israel: Yahweh our God is one Yahweh. (Also, Mark 12:29).
• Gal. 3:20: Yet God is [only] one Person. (original Amplified Bible).
• 1 Cor. 8:4: there is no God except one (Gk eis = one person)…
• Jas. 2:19: You believe that God is one (eis) person; well done!

Only the Father Is Almighty God ​

• John 17:1, 3: Father...you, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
• John 5:43, 44 I have come in my Father’s name … the only God.
• 1 Cor. 8:6: to us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things …and one Lord Jesus Christ.
• Eph. 4:6 There is one God and Father of all, who is over all.

Jesus is Not Almighty God ​

• 1 Tim. 2:5: For there is one God and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.
• John 20:17 I am ascending to my Father… to my God.
• John 20:31 These have been written so that you believe that Jesus is the Christ (not God).
• Eph. 1:3 The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (The salutations in almost all of the NT letters separate Jesus from God)
• Eph. 1:17 The God of our Lord Jesus Christ
• Jude 1:25 To the only God, our saviour, through Jesus Christ
• Rev. 1:1 The revelation from Jesus Christ. God gave this to him.
• Rev. 1:6 Priests to his [Jesus’] God and Father
• Rev. 3:12 of my God … from my God

Jesus is Subordinate to God​

• John 14:28: The Father is greater than me.
• John 5:19, 30: Son is not able to do anything on his own initiative.
• Acts 3:13 God glorified His servant Jesus
• 1 Cor. 11:3: The head of Christ is God
• 1 Cor 15:28: Then the Son himself will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to him.

Jesus’ Will is Separate from God’s Will​

• Luke 22:42 Yet not my will, but Yours be done
• Heb. 10:7 I have come to do your will… O God

Holy Spirit Is God’s Mind/Power ​

• Luke 1:35 Holy spirit = power of the Most High (by Hebrew parallelism).
• Micah 3:8 I am filled with power, with the Spirit of Yahweh.

“Spirit” is also an interchangeable term with “mind of God” as in:

• Rom. 11:34: Who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counsellor? Here Paul quotes from:
• Isa. 40:13: Who has measured the spirit of Yahweh, or what man shows him his counsel?
• Matt. 12:28 the spirit of God // Luke 11:20 the finger of God.
