Shunning in the scripture was used to cause shame and grief in a person that committed a sin and did not show repentance. The shunning was an act of love and concern to shock the offender to repent and if so then he would be welcomed back to fellowship. Unless we repent we will likewise perish so proper shunning is for the good of the sinner.
