Consider All the saints before Moses gave the law to Israel. For brevity sake let’s focus on Abraham. Abraham knew nothing of the law, he did not keep the Ten Commandments, the Sabbath and the holy days, unclean laws or anything else in the law. Deuteronomy 5:3 Abraham was a a gentile and worshipped idols before YAHWEH called him and Abraham became a Christian. Knowing all of this about Abraham and that Christians are to have the same faith and imputed righteousness as Abraham why would anyone think that Christians must be law keepers ?
Paul goes to great lengths to explain the difference between grace and the law, Romans 11:5,6,7,8 Romans 9:30,31,32 and that people who think they should keep the law are deceiving themselves because no one can keep the law as everyone since the law was given has sinned and fallen short. Remember Jesus did not abolish the law, not one jot or tittle , the law is in full force upon everyone who is not a Christian. Therefore if you desire to keep the law you must keep it all, James 2:10 Galatians 5:3 Deuteronomy 27:26
Law keepers are under a curse, Galatians 3:10 The law is used by GOD to convict the human spirit of sin, to show the sinner that by his own efforts to keep the law he will fail. If anyone thinks they are keeping all the law perfectly and have no sin then they are lying to themselves and to GOD. 1 John 1:8 Job 15:14 Jeremiah 2:25 Romans 3:10 Ecclesiastes 7:20
The law was never the way to salvation, faith and grace is. You are not saved by law, faith and grace, Ephesians 2:8 There was an old covenant and a new covenant and you cannot be in both trying to combine elements of both together. The new covenant YAHWEH promised was not like the old, Jeremiah 31:31,32 The new covenant is based on the two great commandments Jesus gave that are greater than the Ten Commandments. It involves a change in our nature by the presence of the Holy Spirit that imparts the very love of GOD into us and GODS love is the fulfillment of the law.
This is why Paul said Christians establish the law because they fulfill it with GODS love and not by their own works. You see it is GOD working in us and not us working in the law that only produces death whereas faith and grace produces life. Christians rest from trying to keep a law they can never keep, they Sabbath in Christ, this rest, this Sabbath, is spiritual and not physical.
