1. Crucifixion Friday

All 4 gospels agree Jesus died Friday afternoon, before evening, the start of the Sabbath: Mark 15:34, 42; Mat 27.45-46, 62; Luke 23.54; John 19.31.

2. Resurrection Sunday!

“Jesus rose early on the first day of the week.” Mark 16:9
NOTE
On "the first day of the week," i.e., Sunday (Luke 24:1), followers of Christ say "today is the third day since these things happened." Luke 24:21
Luke 13:32
had previously showed us how this is to be counted, I.e., “today, tomorrow and the third day.”
So Friday (today), Saturday (tomorrow) and Sunday (the third day).
These first Christians were despondent because according to Hos 6:2 God would restore "Israel," who the Messiah embodies, represents, "on the third day."

3. Sunday Communion

The early church had communion, "breaking bread," on “the first day of the week” according to Acts 20.7.
This was not just a meal based on Paul’s later admonishment to the church regarding communion service instructions in 1 Corinthians 11:20-22.

4. Sunday Collection

According to Jewish tradition a charity collection took place on the Sabbath (Yad, loc. cit. 9:1–3).
The collection was gathered either at a synagogue or the Temple treasury (cp. Mark 12:35, 41).
But in 1Cor 16:1 Paul says:
"Now concerning the collection for the saints:
As I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do."
  • NOTE this is not a localized, isolated event for one particular church only.

1Cor 16:2 "On the first day of every week each one of you is to put aside and save, as he may prosper, so that no collections be made when I come.”
  • NOTE the putting aside and collection no longer on the Sabbath.

Good morning. Some believe Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday. Many believe he was crucified on a Friday. I wouldn't be too dogmatic about it.

Jesus was definitely raised on the first day of the week or on a Sunday. There is no doubt about that.

The NT is, see point 2.

Matthew 12:40👈 hard to fit a Friday crucifixion in there

Plus there is John 19:14; 31.

As I said before, whether one believes Jesus was crucified on a Wednesday or on a Friday, neither belief should be used as a whip.

There is a biblical method called harmonization, difficult texts with majority, simple texts.

Matt 12:40, John 19:14; 31 are not difficult texts. You just don't want to allow the possibility that our lord Jesus could have been crucified on a Wednesday. That's fine, suit yourself. I'm open to either the Wednesday or Friday crucifixion being possible and its obvious I'm leaning towards Wednesday.

Does that mean that I'm going to be cast into the lake of fire to be annihilated?

Answer 👉Nope.

Thank you for this information. I had had some questions about the timeline and it's nice to know there's a possible answer. Thank you for sharing

I really wish I could get those with a heavy sda influence or a heavy messianic judaism influence to understand this. Thank you for putting the information together so succinctly!
