Today many believe Jesus was raised from the dead early Sunday morning and that 7 Sundays later was the day of Pentecost. Pentecost means “fiftieth” ; if you begin on a Sunday and count forward it is only 49 days not 50. If you count backwards you arrive on a Saturday. You can try this with a calendar, you start on Sunday and move to Saturday, this is one day, then continue until you reach 50.
Some churches use this information to claim Sabbath keeping but if you read my thread, “Keeping of Days, I do not agree with this. Pentecost always falls on a Sunday, counting back 10 days is the day of ascension, 40 more days Jesus was resurrected and 3 more the Passover.
In those days a day was from sunset to sunset not midnight to midnight making the dawn of a new day at sunset not sunrise. In that last week Passover fell on Wednesday a preparation day for the next day, Thursday was a high day, KJV John 19:31-42, the first day of unleavened bread, then Friday was the preparation day for the weekly sabbath and then at sunset on Friday the weekly Sabbath began. Matthew 28:1-6 KJV “as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week” remember days began and ended at sunset, it was the dawn of a new day or age, it was not speaking of sunrise. Notice that Jesus was already risen before the weekly Sabbath ended. Jesus fulfilled the Passover, the Sabbath, the days of unleavened bread and Pentecost. Matthew 5-17, Luke 24:44. Jesus fulfilled all these holy days written in the Law of Moses on the same day as they had been kept. The Church does not keep these or any other days as I explained in the thread “Keeping of Days”. With Christ all the days of your life are holy 1 Peter 1:15-18.
