First Timothy 2:6 shows that the one God reaches out to mankind by his Son , the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a substitutionary ransom (anti-lutron) for all people, all mankind. His sacrifice was sufficient to ransom mankind and had the same worth or value compared to what Adam’s worth or value was, or what Adam lost for his desendants.
Paul shows in 1 Cor. 10:16-17 that by eating the bread and drinking the cup, that we have a sharing in the blood of the Christ and in the body of Christ. And also that all believers together are a body who have to care for one another. As a body of believers we eat and drink from the body and the blood of Christ.
In 1 Cor. 11:22-26 Paul shows also what taking the bread and drinking the cup means. It is a proclamation of our faith in the sacrifice or ransom Jesus payed for all mankind. It it is a proclamation of our faith to our fellow believers, to Christ, to God the Father, and also to mankind. The contents of the New Covenant we can read in Jer. 31:31-34 and also in Heb. 8:8-12.
So if we say NO to the eating and the drinking, we show that we don’t want the merits of that sacrifice. Eating and drinking of it is an act of faith. And eating and drinking of it is not for a special kind of believers, as the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach about the so called 144.000, that is that it is something to show that they believe to go to heaven and to be a part of the seed of Abraham and the rest of the believers are NOT a part of Abraham’s seed.
I see in Scripture that only Jesus as the king-highpriest in the order of Melchisedek went to heaven into the real “holy of holies” to accomplish that his blood would in principle be used for all mankind, but in fact only for believers in the sacrifice or ransom as 1 Tim. 4:10 says. And John 3:14-16 says this too, next verse 35-36. After Jesus has accomplished that, he comes back to earth to proclaim and to give that everlasting life to the ones who belong to Him (1 Cor. 15:20-24 real 20-28 and 42-58; and as 2 Pet. 1:3-4 says “the divine nature”).
Believers in Jesus as the Christ have IN CHRIST also the land-promise to Abraham just like Jesus has, by believing that Jesus is the Son and Seed of Abraham. They are heirs to the same promise and of the fulfillment of that promise to the believers out of every time period in the history of mankind (Gal. 3:26-29).
Then something about 1 Cor. 11:27-34. Those verses are used by some to prevent believers to eat and drink from the bread and the cup. There was a problem in Corinth with the “Love-meal” and the “Meal of the Lord”. They were connected as can be seen in 1 Cor. 11:20-22 because of the fact that the one was drunk and the other was hungry. There were those who had nothing, and for them was the “love-meal” in the first place…..
Believers who took the food and the drink for themselves instead that they gave it to the poor, did not take care for the body, the congregation as the body of Christ. They didn’t show love for the poor in the congregation. By doing that, they did not discern the body which is mentioned in 1 Cor. 10:17, that is the members of the congregation. And of course they didn’t show respect for the sacrifice of Christ. This are some words I like to say before we partake of the bread and the cup, which represents the body and the blood of Christ, poured out on the cross/tree/stake on Golgotha……
