It is all well and good that we remember Jesus’ suffering on the cross, and his purchase of his church. But here are omissions that I notice from various groups. Some forego the drinking. Some omit Luke 22:28-30.
28 “You are those who have stayed with me w in my trials, 29 and x I assign to you, as my Father assigned to me, a kingdom, 30 [†] y that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom and z sit on thrones judging a the twelve tribes of Israel.
Still others omit 1 Corinthians 12:32.
27 [†] a Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord b in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning c the body and blood of the Lord. 28 d Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 [†] For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some e have died. [8] 31 [†] f But if we judged [9] ourselves truly, we would not be judged. 32 [†] But when we are judged by the Lord, g we are disciplined [10] so that we may not be h condemned along with the world.
The latter 2 serve as major incentives to draw near and dine with our Lord, and omitting them may let fears and reservations fester.
