In 2 Samuel there is recorded for us the account of Uzzah. This story contains extremely important information about how the law works and how when compared to grace is the entire reason why Christians are not under the law. 2 Samuel 6:1,2,3,4,5 explains what was going on that led to what happened to Uzzah. 2 Samuel 6:6,7 explains why Uzzah touched the ark, the oxen stumbled and the ark no doubt tilted as if to fall off the cart that was carrying it. Uzzah reacted by reaching out and taking hold of the ark and GOD struck him down and killed him for his breaking the law. Numbers 4:15 Exodus 25:12,13,14 Numbers 7:9 If you look up the word used to describe Uzzahs action you may see error, irreverent act, lack of respect however if you look up Strongs article H7944 that informs us that Uzzahs action was not with any evil intent. A Question comes to mind that why would Uzzah die because the obvious intent of his heart was to protect the ark from damage but King David committed both adultery and murder but was not stoned to death as the law demanded but was forgiven. Psalm 51 is the account of David’s sincere and humble repentance and GOD obviously forgave David but why did GOD kill Uzzah ? Uzzah was under the law, he did not have the Holy Spirit, he could not repent and the law shows no mercy. Hebrews 10:28 The law does not care about the thoughts and intents of the heart, the motive Uzzah had was good but that did not matter, Uzzah died. This shows that the law was only concerned with the outward acts and words of the flesh but totally ignores the spirit , the inner thoughts and intents of the heart. Uzzah was under the old covenant law but David was a Christian and had access by the Holy Spirit to grace and forgiveness upon sincere repentance. Psalm 51:11 David had the Holy Spirit and prayed that GOD would not take HIS spirit from him. This is the reason why Uzzah died but David lived. This story about Uzzah teaches this. After David saw what happened to Uzzah and understanding just what I have explained his response was, 2 Samuel 6:8,9
Anyone who places themselves under the law is an Uzzah. Anyone that is brought into the new covenant of grace is a David. A man after GODS own heart.
