I was present as a protester for Children's and Human Rights. The Watchtower Organization is violating these rights, for instance by 'shunning' members, including minors (if baptized) and by not recognizing victims of Child Sexual Abuse, but protecting pedophiles through their policies, upheld by elders.

**For Freedom, Respect and Human Rights**

On this April 20th, we, an international community of concerned citizens, gather in Amsterdam to hold a silent protest against a practice that has gone unnoticed for too long and deeply affects the lives of many: the shunning, or social death declaration, as imposed by the organization of Jehovah's Witnesses.

We gather in the shadow of the Johan Cruyff Arena, not as opponents of individual believers, but as voices of concern against an institution that undermines the fundamental rights of people and children through the practice of shunning. This action is a plea for change, for understanding, and for the rights of those who suffer from these practices.

**Our Principles**

**Respect for Human Dignity**: Every individual deserves respect, regardless of creed. The practice of shunning violates this basis of human dignity by isolating and rejecting people.

**Freedom of Religion**: While we uphold the freedom of religion, we are critical of practices that restrict this freedom by punishing individuals who abandon their religious principles or the organization.

**Protection of Children's Rights**: Children deserve a safe and supportive environment in which to grow up. The practice of imposed shunning can lead to serious psychological harm in young people, in violation of internationally recognized children's rights.

**Our Call**

We call on the leaders and members of Jehovah's Witnesses to reconsider and reform
the practice of imposed shunning. We believe that change is possible and that dialogue and understanding can open pathways to a more respectful and humane approach.

We also ask the broader community, government and human rights organizations to pay attention to this issue and work together to promote change and protect the rights of those affected by imposed shunning.

**Our Action**

Our silent march is a peaceful protest, a symbolic march of solidarity with those suffering the consequences of imposed shunning. We carry not a message of hatred, but a call to action, to reflection, and to the restoration of the basic rights due to every human being.
