RELIGION versus GRACE | Worship in Spirit (a)

You are worthy to receive glory and honor and power. You made all things.
Everything existed and was made because you wanted it.

Rev 4:11, Easy to Read Version

The five-year-old boy couldn’t sit still in church. He squirmed, turned in his seat to smile at those behind. His mother sternly whispered, “Stop smiling! Don’t you know we are in church?” What comes to your mind at the mention of the word “worship”? Solemnity? Or is it the other end of the scale, the “happy-clappy” contemporary style of evangelical worship. Others view it as everything in a Christian’s life done to glorify God.

Word origin? Of the over 50
Hebrew words in the OT relating to worship, שָׁחָׁ הshachah’ has frequent usage. It has the basic meaning of “to bow down, prostrate oneself”. Similarly, the Greek word προσκυνέω ‘proskyneō’ to kiss, fall upon the knees, do obeisance or worship.

He is Worthy. Although the Bible doesn’t give us a formal definition of worship, please notice this
comment:

“Worth-ship is the quality of having worth or of being worthy. When we worship, we are saying that God has worth, that he is worthy. … Or to put it in biblical terms, we praise God. We speak, or sing, about how good and powerful God is. This is a purpose for which we are called: "You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light" (1 Peter 2:9). We were called for the purpose of praising God, worshiping God. That is one of the job descriptions of a Christian. We should declare that God is worthy, worth more than everything else put together.”
