Lost and Found
I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy
Ezekiel 34:16, NASB
Ezekiel 34:16, NASB
Feeling lost? Chronic illness, unemployment, divorce, death of someone close to you, loneliness, ostracization, physical or emotional abuse, being controlled by an addiction? When in such deep holes of depression, even despair, we need the support of friends, perhaps professionals and most of all, God.
Sadly, there is still a greater situation we all face – it is the “Grand Canyon” abyss of sin. No man, however “saintly”, could jump the gaping sin chasm to reach God’s perfect standards (Rom 3:9-18). The world record holder for the long jump Mike Powell jumped an amazing 29 feet, 4.5 inches but he and all of us would inevitably fall a mile to our death in any futile attempt to jump across the 18-mile-wide Grand Canyon!
Hope for the lost. Often in scripture the bad news of lostness is immediately followed by the good news of salvation. Why? Because Jesus has filled in the gap! See here.
Isaiah 53:6
× LOST: All of us were like sheep that were lost, each of us going his own way …
✓ FOUND: But the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Luke 19:2,10
× LOST: There was a chief tax collector there named Zacchaeus, who was rich …
✓ FOUND: The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
Romans 3:12,24
× LOST: All have turned away from God, … no one does what is right …
✓ FOUND: By the free gift of God's grace all are put right with him through Christ Jesus.
