Can Willful Sin cause me to Lose Salvation?
Can Willful Sin cause me to Lose Salvation?
If we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light,
we have [unbroken] fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt
[keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations]

We might trust in God’s mercy to forgive our unintentional, spontaneous sins – a thoughtless comment or a sudden outburst of anger - but will He forgive intentional, premeditated and habitual sins like drunkenness or sexual impurity? What do the scriptures say?
▪ Often sin starts with a spontaneous thought, which if not rejected within a few seconds develops into an intentional desire until the body members succumb to sin. All wrongdoing is usually a mix of unintentional and intentional sin which calls for repentance (James 1:14-15).
▪ If God does not forgive willful sin, then there would have been no hope for repentant David, Manasseh, the prodigal son or the Jews who killed the Son of God. They had the opportunity of repenting and returning to our merciful God (Hos 14:1-4; Acts 2:36-41).
▪ The Old Covenant demanded perfect obedience and animal blood to cover unintentional sins; the New Covenant provided Christ’s perfect sacrifice and wiped out ALL sin and sins (Heb 8:9,12).
▪ If we repent of the major sin of not believing in His Son, God places us in the light. 1 John 1:7 says that “if we walk in the light, as he is in the light … the blood of Jesus cleanses [present tense, continually] us from all sin.” Believers don’t suddenly leave the light to sin but it is while we are walking in the light, possessing a new desire to avoid sin, we will sometimes sin. 1 John 2:1-2 reassures that we have an advocate. For a possible explanation of Heb 6:4-6; 10:26-31 see here.
