A soul is what we are and is not a part of us but is the complete person. A soul is a living breathing creature, man or animal. In reality man has the same life force as an animal. All souls have a body and a spirit unique to that soul. Of all the souls man is the highest in intelligence and sentience and this is how he is a shadow of Gods image and likenes. God is not limited in what kind of soul He can create and can create any type of soul He desires. Even existing souls can be modified or altered by God in any way He pleases. Examples of this are; Balaams talking donkey, the skills given to build the ark and Nebuchadnezzars transformation. The soul of Jesus was the greatest example of all and was the highest level possible for a human being, Jesus was super human, the only soul of its kind ever created or will ever exist. God created an image of His character of love, impeccability and righteousness in His son.
Using these truths let us examine the teaching of glorified flesh, the idea that Jesus now is and we at the first resurrection will become glorified flesh. This would mean that Jesus and the church would be immortal souls. This idea says that now we are mortal souls but then become immortal souls. There is nothing in scripture that supports this. Scripture states that it is the spirit that gives life and flesh profits nothing. John 6:63 also see; Job 27:3, Job 32:8, Job 33:4, 1 Peter 3:18, John 3:6-8, Genesis 2:7, Romans 8:6-13, 2 Corinthians 5:16, Galatians 6:8 and Jude 1:23. Your body of flesh is a tempor container of your human spirit. Your spirit is who you really areand is what will receive salvation in a new body composed totally of spirit. The Holy Spirit of God is not the human spirit. Hebrews 12:23, 2 Corinthians 5:1, Hebrews 9:11 and James 2:26. Upon death the human spirit goes back to God and in this sense only we all go to heaven at death. God designed our spirit to need a body in order to operate. As the body ages or suffers severe damage beyond the spirits ability to keep it alive then this is death. Acts 7:59 Luke 23:46. The analogy of the flash light and the batteries; both are needed to make your light shine but if separated neither can function.
