Hi everyone, I’d just like to put a new idea to you concerning the dream of the statue that Daniel interprets for king Nebuchadnezzar. It’s probably familiar to you. The empire that is represented by the legs of iron has been much debated. Three popular contenders are: Rome; the Ottoman Empire; the Anglo American world power. But the first two candidates beg the question why didn’t the kingdom stone arrive during either of these rulerships, while the third option leaves one wondering why the large gap between the ancient world powers of Medo Persia and Greece to the Ottoman Empire or indeed the Anglo American power? The three kingdoms are conjoined forming the body of the statue and there is no indication of a space of time between the kingdoms making up the torso and the last kingdom represented by the legs. There’s also no gap between the legs and the feet of clay that the stone hits, shattering the whole statue and pulverising it.
This is an alternative idea:
The identity of the statue is given in the identity of the head - the fact that king Nebo’s head is on the statue surely means that it is a representation of him. Nebuchadnezzar is an Antichrist “type”, meaning that there are similarities in the things he did during his reign and what we know the Antichrist will do during his. One of the things Nebo does is try to force God’s people to worship an idolatrous image - in chapter three of Daniel we see that this is a 666, six cubits wide (we assume each side is the same width) and sixty cubits high. Nebo claims to be equal to God, boasting that he conquered the world himself, thus raising himself to heaven.
So this statue actually represents the Antichrist (the head of gold) while the body of the statue represents the kingdoms that join with him. The legs represent the Antichrist empire itself. The legs of iron is the fourth kingdom depicted in the statue. It corresponds to the fourth beast (who is “unusually strong”) and crushes everything with its iron teeth. The succession of empires that ruled over Babylon in antiquity clue us as to the identity of the kingdoms and their domains that will make up the composite beast confederation at the time of the end. The feet of iron and clay may depict the divisions between people in the time of the tribulation - where each one’s hand is against his brothers. There are also the holy ones (true Christians) who will firmly resist this king also according to Daniel’s prophesy, so certainly a very divided world during the advent of Christ’s return.
That’s the outline anyway. Comments welcome.
