Under the law it was not permitted for a person to be both king and priest. The Levites were the priests from the tribe of Levi and the kings were of the tribe of Judah. Melchizedek however was both a king and a priest, he was of a entirely different order than that of Aaron. Do you think that if Jesus was on the earth today that he would be a Levitical priest ? Hebrews 8:1,4,6,13 Jesus is both king and priest after the order of Melchizedek not Aaron. Hebrews 7:5,6,7,8,9,10

Jesus is our high priest not after the law of carnal commandment but according to the power of an endless life. Some think Melchizedek was Jesus when reading Hebrews 7:3 but this actually means that Melchizedek had no record of his birth or death and his parents were unknown. To be a Levitical priest you had to prove you descended from Aaron. The meeting of Melchizedek and Abraham happened 400 years before Moses gave the law. This means Melchizedek was not a law keeper and neither was Abraham. If Jesus is after the order of Melchizedek then Jesus was not a law keeper either. Jesus fulfilled the law with agape because this is how the law is fulfilled. Romans 13:10

If you follow Aaron you cannot be in Christ. We are to be the children of Abraham, children of faith, not law. Galatians 3:6,7,8,9,10,12,12,13,14 Law keepers cannot understand the message of the gospel if they think they need to keep the law. They will never be kings and priests under the law because the law forbids it. Jesus gave his life to redeem us from the law. Galatians 3:13

If the new covenant is superior to the old covenant then why would anyone in that new covenant desire the things of the old covenant ?

There is absolutely nothing in the old covenant that gives the promises to law keepers. Hebrews 7:18,19 Romans 3:20 The Ten Commandments and law of Moses is the ministry of death. 2 Corinthians 3:7,8,9,10,11 Christ is the end of the law or the law ends for those who are in Christ. Romans 10:4 Romans 3:22,22 Acts 13:39 Romans 8:3 Jesus gave two commandments that are greater than the Ten Commandments. Mark 12:29,30,31 One of the scribes that asked Jesus, “which commandment is greatest of all” , after hearing the answer Jesus gave made this statement, Mark 12:32,33 , then Jesus replied, Mark 12:34

The truth is that grace and faith were revealed to Abraham , to whom were given the promises, 400 years before Moses and the law. The law was not grace or truth because these came by Jesus not Moses. John 1:17 Law keepers think the law is what is right, it seems right to them. Proverbs 14:12 The law kills everyone under the law because sinners die under the law. No one is righteous under the law but the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of GOD. 1 Corinthians 6:9 Law keepers are spiritually blind to all these things and only GOD can open their eyes to see the truth if it is the proper time for these law keepers. Until then they will be stiff necked and hard hearted and in total ignorance of the message of the gospel. The law is what all people need saved from. The law kills everyone under it and the whole world is guilty before GOD. Romans 3:19,20

Everyone that I know who still claim righteousness by attending church services and performing services to serve their church and pay tithes, etc. still use a personal checklist to determine their holiness. It may not be on actual paper, but they will - during their gossip sessions - compare themselves to others to determine what their level of salvation would be.

Even when I visit with those whom I shared a pew or small group meeting; the one topic never discussed is hermeneutics and leaning of God for understanding. Each time, someone drags out a man-written commentary to determine the truth.

The message that we give is upsetting for them. The message that Yeshua gave to the people of Israel was so upsetting that the Jews had Yeshua crucified for it. The Apostles shared the message, and most of them will killed for it. At least, while we may be shunned or ignored, we still live.

I think it is kind of interesting to realize that, if local churches are teaching the truth; the people referred to in the book of Acts were never "saved".

The Apostle Paul got "the truth" from God and not from man, but that doesn't count. We are to know that the only truth is the teaching we get from a minister who got it from a seminary professor who got it from another professor.
