Many times in scripture the words Judah and Jerusalem appear. Isaiah 1:1 , Jeremiah 19:7 , 2 Kings 23:2 , Jeremiah 25:18 . The prophetic scriptures concern Judah and Jerusalem. During Solomons reign God informed Solomon that HE was going to take the United Kingdom of Israel away from his son Rehoboam. Israel would split into two nations, Israel to the north ruled by Jeroboam and the southern kingdom of Judah ruled by Rehoboam. In time God had the king of Assyria invade the northern kingdom of Israel and transported the people another land , then about 135 years later God had Nebuchadnezzar invade the southern kingdom of Judah and transported the people to Babylon. After 70 years God allowed the kingdom of Judah to return to Jerusalem led by Ezra and Nehemiah so that the Christ would be born in Bethlehem . The northern kingdom of Israel for the most part was absorbed into other cultures in the region and lost their identity as a people to this day. The modern day nation called Israel is in reality Judah . This is why the prophets speak about Judah and Jerusalem concerning the last days. Zechariah 12:2 , Revelation 17:4 .
