I think the worst deception is self-deception. The primary tool to cause us to go astray is "the complement." Our egos like them. Keeping the humility that prevents our failing shrinks when we start believing that we are "all that and a bag of chips." Consider how much worse it is when we are paid to be an expert to those who don't know the truth or how to find it.

Would you believe that this deception started before the creation of Adam and Eve? It has not stopped yet.

The source of false doctrine is of Satan. Paul is writing of men who follow and then teach doctrines twisted from their scriptural intent. While these lies come through a man, the man is working for the prince of this world. One day, we all will have to reconcile the things we have believed with the One who holds all truth.

2 Peter 3:15–16 And count the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our beloved brother Paul also wrote to you according to the wisdom given him, as he does in all his letters when he speaks in them of these matters. There are some things in them that are hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other Scriptures

2 Cor 11:12–15 And what I am doing I will continue to do, in order to undermine the claim of those who would like to claim that in their boasted mission they work on the same terms as we do. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

And THAT is why we look to God through Yeshua for truth. I'd imagine that we all have watched courtroom TV shows which demonstrate how wily and shrewd a lawyer can be.

Do we not realize that a minister can be no different? I do think there is a major difference, however. The lawyer knows he is being deceptive, while a minister might also believe that he says. Matter of fact, that minister may have graduated from a school with honors because his test scores were excellent.

Yahweh does not grade on a curve.
