These verses are used by everyone that I have checked to say that Jesus , “who in the days of his flesh offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to save him from death and was heard in that he feared. “.
Examine all the accounts in the gospels and you will not find “strong crying and tears” . The “who” is speaking of Melchizedek not Jesus. The text says “ he was heard” or his prayers were answered and he was saved from death. Was Jesus saved from death ?
Verse 8 then speaks of Jesus, “though he was a son yet he learned obedience by the things which he suffered.” Verses 7 and 8 are comparing the sufferings of Melchizedek to Jesus.
If you read Genesis 14: 1-24 you see the story of Chedorlaomer and other kings that invaded lands of kings who refused to pay him tribute. Abraham became involved when Lot was taken captive. Melchizedek was greatly afraid that his city would be attacked also and prayed with strong crying and tears to God and God answered by sending Abraham thus saving Melchizedek and his city. This seems very likely because Melchizedek was there after the defeat of the kings and blessed Abraham.
There is no record anywhere in scripture of Jesus doing strong crying and tears. Below is how verse 8 should read.
Verse 8 Hebrews Though Jesus was the son of God, yet he also learned as Melchizedek did by the things Jesus suffered.”
Remember God saved Melchizedek, God did not save Jesus.
