This “light” could not have been the sun as it was not created until the fourth day. This was GOD separating the kingdom of GOD from the kingdom of Satan. It was the Satanic rebellion that caused the damage to the Earth that GOD repaired. According to Genesis the Earth existed before any other physical thing and was created and later repaired before time even existed. It is impossible to know the age of the Earth because it existed before time.
