Commentaries

39:42 all that Yahweh had commanded Moses Confirms the work had been completed according to the instructions given in chs. 25–31.

John D. Barry et al., Faithlife Study Bible (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2012, 2016), Ex 39:42.

Notes for 39:43

23 tn Or “examined” (NASB, TEV); NCV “looked closely at.”
24 tn The deictic particle draws attention to what he saw in such a way as to give the reader Moses’ point of view and a sense of his pleasure: “and behold, they …”
25 sn The situation and wording in Exod 39:43 are reminiscent of Gen 1:28 and 31, with the motifs of blessing people and inspecting what has been made.

Biblical Studies Press, The NET Bible First Edition Notes (Biblical Studies Press, 2006), Ex 39:42–43.

39:32–43 The text repeatedly states that the Israelites did everything just as God had commanded them (vv. 32, 42, 43; see note at 40:16–33). Several terms and concepts here, especially in v. 43, recall the completion of creation. Both the Lord and Moses completed work, saw all the work they had accomplished, and pronounced a blessing (Gn 1:22, 28, 31; 2:1–2; 5:2). Earlier in Exodus, Pharaoh begged for a blessing from Moses (12:32). Now the workers who had built the tabernacle received his blessing, as had the Levites who showed loyalty to the Lord (32:29; cp. 20:24; 23:25).
