Paul explains marriage and divorce in 1 Corinthians 7:1-16
If your not married do not have sexual relations as this is fornication . Marriage is the only Godly approved use of sex.
If you are married you should not seek a divorce unless your mate abandons you or commits adultery.
Neither husband or wife is to withhold sex from the other except by mutual consent for a time and soon be together again so as not to be tempted by Satan for lack of self control.
If unmarried or widowed it is Paul’s advice to remain single but if you cannot control yourself then get married because it is better to be married then to burn with passion.
If married the wife must not separate from the husband but if she does she must remain single or be reconciled to her husband. A husband must not divorce his wife except in already noted exceptions.
If a Christian has an unconverted wife or husband who is willing to live with him or her they will not divorce him or her. By living together in Eros the unbelieving is sanctified by the believer and your children are holy. However if one who does not believe leaves the Christian brother or sister is not bound to being single but can remarry . God hates divorce but because of the hardness of human hearts certain conditions would permit.
Jesus said about divorce, Matthew 5:31-32 , about what Moses said, Mark 10:5-12 Matthew 19:9
It should be that converted people in marriage should never have reason for divorce.

It’s interesting that Paul gave another reason for divorce in verse 15, which you mentioned. Thanks for your thoughts on this by the way.

Verse 15 (nlt)
But if the husband or wife who isn’t a believer insists on leaving, let them go. In such cases the believing husband or wife is no longer bound to the other, for God has called you to live in peace.)

In my case, I have decided to use this option.

Ray has shown me that there are many books written on this subject. I actually bought his, and plan to read it soon.

Neil, I too used this option 43 years ago. I desperately tried to save our marriage but she was intent on leaving. Since then she married 2 more times both ending in divorce.

Sorry to hear that you had to go through that pain Lee. I’m guessing time has healed you, as it’s been a long time. I would definitely see God’s mercy in calling us to peace in giving a desperate final option of ending the marriage.
Sounds like she was searching for something that couldn’t be found.

Years later while at my daughters wedding I was introduced to the woman who became my current wife, a good woman who has been with me now for 24 years.
