In John 5 the word God refers to the Father 14 times; in John 7-8 more than 10 times!
The Son even echoes the words of John 17:3 when he says in John 8:26 "the one Who sent me [i.e., commissioned] is true.” And I like the Good News Translation in John 8:54 where Jesus answers: “If I were to honor myself, that honor would be worth nothing. The one who honors me is my Father—the very one you say is your God.”
The one God of the Jews, the Father, is the very same God of the Son!
In John 20 Jesus says to Mary: “Go to my brethren and tell them: "I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” John declares the same in Rev 1:6 when he says the Son "has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father." And in Rev 3 John says the post-resurrected Jesus has a God 5 times!
