What a beautiful article! Just what I needed. I suffer from chronic pain and so I'm up unable to sleep. Pain medicine barely works and on occasion doesn't work at all. This fortified my soul, gave me strength, turned my depressing negative hopeless thoughts into the beauty of new growth from a stump of a mighty tree. It also brought to mind that Jesus is described as the root of Jesse, Psalms 1, and the tree of the knowledge of good and bad. There is good and bad in everything. Having chronic pain is a "bad" experience but it has helped me so much. When I was healthy, I remembered visiting individuals that were sick and had chronic pain. I did not know what to say and felt lost on how to comfort them. Now it is easy to find the right words and have enjoyed being in groups of people who have the same "pains" as I do. It creates a bond and connection I wouldn't have otherwise as we help each other. I have to say it has produced "good" in my life alongside the "bad." Obviously, Tracie Miles (writer of the article) experiences has produced a lot of good too!
