At the resurrection Jesus asks an unbaptized person, “Why didn’t you obey me and get baptized?”
The person says, “Well, Jesus, what about the thief on the cross? He didn’t get baptized!”
Both Jesus and the thief on the cross shake their heads in disbelief.

Take note that Jesus said , I say to you today you shall be with me in paradise. The Greek here had no punctuation, no commas, periods, question or exclamation. The translators inserted them according to what they thought made sense. These translators were likely trinitarians. Ask, did Jesus go to paradise that day ? When did Jesus go to paradise ? Now the thief was not dead when he was taken down from his cross and his legs broken; it would probably take several days for him to die. The thief did not go to paradise that day. Here is how this verse should be; I say to you today, thou shalt be with me in paradise. The paradise Jesus spoke of is more than likely the second resurrection where the thief will have the Holy Spirit and his opportunity for salvation undergoing the process of baptism, laying on of hands. Even though Cornelius and his house received the Spirit first they were still baptized.

Baptism is a symbolic act of faith involving the belief that all prior sins have been forgiven and that you are also dead to the law symbolically as you were buried with Christ and resurrected to a new life where you are a living sacrifice. Then from this point forward your sins are forgiven through grace. We submit to these things not only by command of Jesus but also by faith in him and his God. I do not think this is asking too much considering the future reward we receive.
