February 4th
PEOPLE JESUS MET
Profile: Andrew and his brother Simon Peter partnered with James and John in a fishing business. He was first a disciple of John the Baptist who he heard introduce Jesus as “the Lamb of God.” He, along with another disciple (likely John), followed Jesus to his residence and was convinced he had found the Messiah. He then found his brother Simon and led him to Jesus (John 1:36-41). The two brothers returned to their fishing business, but between six months and a year later, they, along with James and John, were invited by Jesus to become “fishers of men.” They immediately abandoned their nets. In time these four became apostles. Next, we meet
Andrew at the feeding of the 5000 (John 6:8-10). He tentatively brought a lad forward to Jesus with two loaves and some fish, while asking "what are these among so many?" He then saw what seemed inadequate can, in the Lord's hands, be made into over-sufficiency. At Passover time some Greeks arrived asking to see Jesus. Philip and Andrew carried the request to Jesus (John 12:20-22).

Lessons:
- When Andrew is mentioned, he is usually bringing people to Christ: Simon, the lad with loaves, and the Greeks. Can you point someone to Christ?
- Though Andrew was first called and is always listed as among the first four in all the apostolic lists, noticeable prominence was given to the three - Peter, James and John. He was a humble man who did not seek pre-eminence; satisfied to just work in the background, whether his efforts were recognized or not.
