My Dutch Bible translation The Book (Het Boek) says in Hebrews 9:7 - But only the high priest was allowed to enter the back part, and then only once a year. He was to take blood with him and sprinkle it on the golden lid of the ark to cover his own sins and those of all the people before God.
11 Christ came as high priest of the new covenant we now have. He has entered the greater and more perfect tent in heaven, which is not made by man and does belong to this world.
14 How much more then will the blood of Christ change our hearts and lives! He, who himself is without sin, by the help of the eternal Spirit, willingly gave himself up to God to die for our sins. This clears our conscience from deeds that lead to death and enables us to serve the living God.
Jesus died to cover our sins and safe us.
