The great tribulation is a sure event, it will happen. Daniel informed Nebuchadnezzar that human governments will be destroyed that were symbolized by the statue of the man. Daniel 2:28,45 Peter called prophecy a sure word that we would do well to heed. Jesus predicted the great tribulation in three of the gospels. The book of Revelation describes the events of the tribulation. If Jesus did not return to stop the tribulation no one would be alive on the Earth. Yahweh is allowing humanity to reap what they have sown. Human governments are all evil and designed by Satan, the god of this world. If we are Christian’s we have nothing to do with any human government because right now we are part of the government of Yahweh, a kingdom, with our names recorded in heaven that certifies our citizenship there and not of this world. Revelation 3:10 The hour of trial is the great tribulation and it is not just at Jerusalem but it is the whole world. The cup of Yahwehs wrath is poured out on all the nations of the Earth. Revelation 14:9,10 Psalm 75:8 Jeremiah 25:15,26 Furthermore, Matthew 24:29 KJV , Mark 13:24,25 , Jesus did not return in 70 AD . Matthew 24:14 the gospel was not preached to the world as a witness but is in Revelation 14:6 . There are way to many scriptures that plainly have a yet future fulfillment to claim a 70 AD tribulation . Jesus said that if he did not return to stop the tribulation no one on Earth would survive. Your idea of a 70 AD tribulation is only a microcosm of the yet future event.
Ok, then, that leaves us with the warning from Yeshua about fleeing when surrounded by armies. It also leaves us with "this generation." Considering that there can be dual prophecies - events foretold that can happen twice - we might simply consider this topic not-yet-settled. One day, it will be.
This generation, the generation that sees all things Jesus described, Luke 21:31 , will not pass away until all of them are fulfilled. In the day of this generation it is the entire world, Luke 21:35 , not just Jerusalem. Matthew 23:36 this generation and all generations will appear and give an account of their words and deeds. This generation, is appointed to judgment not tribulation . Matthew 11:24 , Luke 10:12 . Jeremiah spoke about this and all generations. Jeremiah 23:14 The entire chapter of Ezekiel 16 describes the sins of the harlot Jerusalem and ends with Yahwehs mercy on them. Immediately after the tribulation of thos days Christ establishes the kingdom of Yahweh on Earth. The saints are recreated to be immortal and impeccable spirit beings and rule and reign with Christ a thousand years. The Jews of 70 AD will someday live again in the flesh and appear at the great white throne. In dual prophecies it is always the latter that carries the greatest weight. Israel since the time of Moses has suffered tribulations time and again to climax in the latter days. Deuteronomy 4:30 agrees with the ending of Ezekiel 16. Surrounded by armies has also happened many times and in the latter days will again for one last time. Jeremiah 23:20 KJV 2 Kings 23:27 Jeremiah 30:24 I see current events leading the world towards those latter days.
