JESUS’ FINAL WEEK
Action: It can be enlightening to read the final words of the famous. Usually they betray understandable self-absorption. But the Good Shepherd died pastoring his sheep, focused on others. In seven brief utterances Jesus proclaimed the most profound sermon that has ever been preached, a beautiful synopsis of the gospel. In these words, we have a summary of the extraordinary character of our Lord, and of God's plan for humankind.
Application: Notice how by the first three “words” Jesus shows an intense concern for those who were closest to him; from the ones below him, to the one at his side and then to the couple in front of him. All of them received in a few words what they needed most. Pray today for the Spirit to help you say a fitting word of grace to those near us. When the time comes for us to face death may our concerns and prayers have a similar unselfish, God focus.
